Acupuncture causes a release of endorphins from the brain, improving mood and energy levels and reducing pain. By restoring normal function to the body systems, acupuncture can adjust the levels of other chemicals and hormones in the body and can have widespread benefits for your physical and mental health. This is what makes acupuncture beneficial for many mental health concerns. Two of the most common concerns that we treat are anxiety and depression.

Anxiety

Acupuncture views anxiety as a disharmony in the body that leads to mental agitation, worry, and overthinking. These can lead to other physical manifestations like heart palpitations, digestive upset, and insomnia, to name a few. Acupuncture can provide relief by helping to settle the mind and body and calming the nervous system, as well as addressing the accompanying physical symptoms. Over time, acupuncture can help correct the underlying imbalance causing anxiety, reducing the frequency and severity of symptoms and the need for medications. Acupuncture may also be used to address the side effects of medications used to treat anxiety.

Depression

Acupuncture sees depression as a pattern of stagnation, of being "stuck," that can cause problems through out the body systems, as well as a general sense of fatigue and melancholy. Acupuncture can help get things moving again, increasing energy level and relieving fatigue. As the body starts to recover and regenerate, you will experience improvements in mood, sleep, digestion, and overall resilience.
My acupuncture sessions with Jesse were the most single effective treatment I used to treat a very severe level of anxiety. For months, I received cognitive behavioral therapy and medication to try to help me manage my symptoms. It was during that time that I sought out Jesse for acupuncture treatments. Until I began my sessions with Jesse, there was not any significant reduction in my level of my anxiety.
Not only have I noticed relief in the short term from my acupuncture treatments, there has been a cumulative effect as well. After beginning treatments with Jesse, I consulted with my doctor and tapered off the medication being used to treat my anxiety. Currently I see him about once a month, sometimes more often during times of physical illness or higher levels of stress.
The most important and valuable element for my treatment of anxiety is acupuncture. My quality of life is significantly better because of it. I greatly appreciate and respect Jesse's knowledge and skill. I am truly grateful for the care he provides.
                                       ~Peter
